Thiruvananthapuram: Padmashree Lakshmikutty amma and former Congress leader and former member of parliament A. P. Abdullakutty joined the BJP today at a membership campaign program in Thiruvananthapuram. BJP State President Sreedharan Pillai received them officially into the party by giving them the party membership.
Lakshmikutty amma, a tribal medicine practitioner and a tribal woman herself, shot to fame after the nation honoured her with the Padma Shri award for her contributions to tribal medicine.
A. P Abdullahkutty is a former MP and MLA and had worked in both CPI(M) and Congress. However, he was ousted from both the parties for the same reason of praising Narendra Modi and his Gujarat mode development.
In the meeting, Sreedharan Pillai said that more prominent leaders and personalities will join the BJP soon. He said that the BJP performed well in the Lok Sabha elections, a fact accepted by even the communist party.
He called on every BJP activists to strengthen the party by working tirelessly to increase the membership of the party two-fold.
