Kampala: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in a meeting with Maldivian counterpart Moosa Zameer in Kampala on Thursday, addressing the recent unease in bilateral ties between Bharat and the Maldives. The leaders conducted a “frank conversation” to discuss various aspects of their ties.
Moosa Zameer, the Maldivian Foreign Minister, shared insights, stating, “We exchanged views on the ongoing high-level discussions on the withdrawal of Indian military personnel, as well as expediting the completion of ongoing development projects in the Maldives, and cooperation within SAARC and NAM. We are committed to further strengthening and expanding our cooperation.”
Jaishankar, who is in Kampala to represent Bharat at the two-day Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit starting Friday, underscored the significance of the discussions on both bilateral issues and topics related to the Non-Aligned Movement.
He shared insights on the meeting through social media.
He noted, “Met Maldives FM @MoosaZameer today in Kampala. A frank conversation on India-Maldives ties. Also discussed NAM related issues,” along with a photograph from the meeting.
