Nagpur: Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University based in Nagpur has decided to include the history of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its stellar role in nation building in the its second year BA (History) course.
However, the Congress party has raised its objection against the move of the university and blames BJP for pushing the agenda of RSS.
Interestingly, the University mentions the details of the establishment of the Congress party and rise of Jawaharlal Nehru and civil disobedience movement in its first and second sections of the syllabus.
A member of the Board of Studies of the university, Satish Chafle, said that the role of RSS is included in the History of India (1885-1947). It will be taught during the fourth semester of BA(History) course.
Satish Chafle said, “Nationalist school of thoughts (including leaders like) Lokmanya Tilak is also part of the Indian history. Similarly, history of the Sangh is a part of the nationalist school. Hence, introduction to RSS was included in the course.”
The member also said that the inclusion of RSS’s contribution in the syllabus is to give the students an understanding about the new trends taking place in history. He added that just like Marxism, new Marxism and new modernism is considered as new trends in history, a study of RSS is also part of this new trend.
