Kozhikode: The children of elderly disabled man who took his life in Kozhikode blamed government for the neglect towards non-payment of their father’s pension. They revealed that despite their father’s struggles to receive his pension, authorities consistently ignored him.

“No action has been taken despite complaining to the authorities several times of not getting the pension. Our father also advocated for locals facing issues with pension and title deeds. It has been five months since the pension amount was received. Our only income was the pension received from the government ”, said the children. They also added that they did not even have money to buy medicine.

Joseph alias V Pappachan, (77) a native of Chakkittapara Grama Panchayat, Muthukad, Valayam was found hanging at his house by his neighbours on Tuesday. Reports said that Joseph had been grappling with severe financial crises for the past five months following the discontinuation of his disability pension. Joseph had lodged a complaint on  November 9 with various authorities, including ministers and the collector, urging the release of his pension. However, as he lost confidence in the government and felt disheartened, Joseph took the tragic step of hanging himself at his residence.
