Ernakulam: Women students filed a police complaint against the Assistant Professor of Arabic at Ernakulam Maharajas College. It is reported that around 10 women students from the college reported instances of racial insults and abuse by Nizamuddin to the Ernakulam Central Police Station. The complaint also alleges that he made threatening phone calls to the students during the night.
The third-year students of Maharajas College filed the complaint at the Ernakulam Central Police Station. It is also pointed out that the conflict at Maharajas College began on January 15 after a clash among students in the Arabic department.
In their complaint, the students stated that the actions taken against them were in revenge for reporting that the disciplinary actions taken by the college authorities in connection to the conflict were biased.
The students mentioned that Nizamuddin questioned them over the phone, saying, “Who are you to question my party?” and used abusive language. He also threatened that if the students continued to complain against his party, they would face suspension for three months.
The students filed the police complaint after the college Principal took no action in response to their complaint against Nizamuddin. In protest against Assistant Professor Nizamuddin, students from the Arabic department boycotted classes.
Following the students’ complaint to the police, the college authorities stated that they have not yet received the report from the inquiry committee. Simultaneously, the students released an audio recording of Nizamuddin making threats over the phone.
The students also claimed that from the beginning, Assistant Professor Nizamuddin has treated them with political animosity. They mentioned that due to the mental stress caused by these incidents, they are often unable to pay proper attention to their studies.
