Prof. TJ Joseph’s hand-chopping case: NIA plans DNA test on accused Savad

Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to conduct a DNA test on Savad, the first accused in the case involving the hand-chopping incident of Professor TJ Joseph. An application for the DNA test is expected to be filed in court soon, as it forms a crucial part of establishing Savad’s identity during the legal proceedings.

PFI (Popular Front of India) terrorist Savad was arrested by the NIA from Kannur after 13 years of absconding. During this period, Savad was living in disguise, under a false name, ‘Shajahan’, in a rented house in Mattannur with his wife, Khadija, and two children. Savad’s arrest raises the necessity for the NIA to provide concrete evidence of his identity in court.

Savad has been remanded in custody until February 16, and the NIA plans to file an application next week for an extension of custody with the court. Simultaneously, they will request permission for a DNA test as part of the ongoing investigation.
