ABVP criticizes Kerala government for delay in granting e-grantz for SC and ST students

Thiruvananthapuram: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has criticised the Pinarayi government’s prolonged delay in disbursing e-grantz, emphasising that it is a constitutional right. Yadu Krishnan, a member of the ABVP National Executive Committee, denounced the government’s stance of withholding e-grantz for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students pursuing undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and other higher education courses in the state, terming it an act of cruelty.

Yadhu Krishnan highlighted the dire situation faced by tribal students, who, due to the absence of proper grants, are compelled to abandon their studies. He pointed out that numerous students couldn’t complete their education due to lack of support to continue their academic pursuits and were compelled to return to their homes.

Yadhu Krishnan accused the government of engaging in blatant fraud by denying students the right to financial assistance from the LSS and USS schemes to the current issue of e-grantz. He shed light on the struggles faced by students in meeting essential expenses such as hostel fees, mess fees, study materials, and exam fees.

He noted that, in this scenario, students feel uneasy about asking for financial support and requesting extra time to pay the fees, causing embarrassment in front of other students and teachers. Even working for a part-time job doesn’t provide sufficient funds to meet their needs.

Yadhu Krishnan criticised the government for allocating significant funds for conducting events like Navakerala Sadas and Keraleeyam while neglecting the needs of socially and economically backward tribal students. This clearly shows that the Left government’s anti-Dalit stance.

Reaching higher education is a major challenge for every tribal student due to their financial struggles. However, if the government attempts to hinder their progress, ABVP will actively stand up to strongly protect their rights, said Yadhu Krishnan.
