Kozhikode: The police have released the son of a prominent CPI (M) leader in Kozhikode after he drove his car into the convoy of Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai. Despite initial attempts to register a case and detain the individual and his vehicle, the police later released him upon discovering his influence in CPI (M).
The incident unfolded at 7:50 pm on Sunday along Mavoor Road near the Mofussil Bus Stand as Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai was returning to his residence. Julius Nikitas, the son of a CPI (M) district leader, deliberately obstructed the Governor’s convoy with his car, which created a traffic jam.
According to reports from the Governor’s principal private secretary, Nikitas ignored warnings from police escorts and continued driving his vehicle, leading to his arrest. Subsequently, he was taken to the Kasaba police station for questioning.
During interrogation, Nikitas revealed his high-level connections within the CPI (M), leading the police to adopt a lenient stance despite the severity of the security breach. He was fined a mere Rs 1,000 for “traffic violation” and released.
Following public outcry over the security breach, Kozhikode Deputy Commissioner of Police Anuj Paliwal announced an inquiry to determine if there were lapses on the part of security personnel.
