Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC has been going through severe crisis for quite some time now. The Corporation is finding it difficult to disburse salary and pension to its employees. KN Balagopal’s budget speech in the Kerala Assembly has destroyed the expectations of the KSRTC. Will KSRTC be able to pay salaries, pensions to employees and run profitably with the fund allotted to it in Kerala Budget 2024-25?
KSRTC, which asked for an additional Rs 400 crore, was allotted only Rs 128.54 crore in the state budget.
The Finance Minister started presenting the budget allocation for the transport sector by making a dig at the UDF government of eight years ago. KSRTC management had asked for an additional Rs 400 crore including the grant and planning fund. But it was allotted only Rs 128.54 crore, during the fund allocation in the Kerala Budget 2024-25. Incidentally, another Rs 92 crores were allotted for the purchase of new bus.
KB Ganesh Kumar who has taken charge as the Minister of Transport department has been favouring the purchase of new diesel buses for the KSRTC. The amount allocated in the state budget for the purchase of new buses for KSRTC will go for purchasing new diesel buses as per the Transport Minister’s proposal. Rs 35.52 crores have been allocated in the state budget to the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD). Out of this, Rs 2.50 crore has been allocated for modernization of check posts.
After the budget presentation of Finance Minister KN Balagopal the KSRTC which is already in deep financial crisis is predicted to experience more instability, uncertainty and peril.
