Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Food and Civil Supplies Minister GR Anil’s wife, R Latha Devi, criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Kerala State Council meeting of the Communist Party of India (CPI). Latha Devi said that her husband is tired of writing letters several times to Pinarayi Vijayan seeking funds for the Food and Civil Supplies department.

Disagreements with this year’s Kerala state budget were also raised in the State Council meeting. The council meeting expressed concerns about the Kerala government’s extravagance. Senior CPI leader VP Unnikrishnan accused the Pinarayi government of spending crores of rupees for the maintenance of cattle shed at the Chief Minister’s official residence while the state is facing severe financial crisis.

The CPI members also expressed their disappointment for not conducting pre-budget consultations with Ministers.

The proposal in the Kerala budget for allowing foreign universities to start their campuses in Kerala was also severely criticized in the Council meeting. CPI State Secretary Binoy Vishwam said that, the criticism that CPI(M) has shown a radical shift in the Left Front policies on the issue of foreign universities,  will be brought to the notice of the Left Front.
