New Delhi: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan officially joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, a day after quitting Congress. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and party state Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule were present when Ashok Chavan joined BJP in the party headquarters in Mumbai. Earlier in the morning, Chavan had made a formal announcement of his intention to join BJP. While welcoming Chavan, Fadnavis hailed him as a “stalwart leader of Maharashtra who worked on both the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha.” Ashok Chavan accepted his new party membership at the BJP headquarters. Chavan’s decision to join the BJP has sent shockwaves through the Congress camp.
