Alappuzha: A CPI(M) local committee member has been arrested in connection with DYFI woman leader’s suicide incident. PN Ananthu (26), a member of the CPI(M) local committee and the DYFI Kavalam regional secretary, was apprehended by the Kainady police. This arrest is connected to the suicide of Athira (25), daughter of RV Tilak, a resident of Kavalam, who was a law student and an active member of the DYFI Block Committee. Ananthu and Athira were engaged two years ago. Ananthu was produced in the Ramankari court and has been remanded in custody.

Ananthu faces charges of abetment to suicide, insulting womanhood, and committing physical assault. The incident occurred on January 5, when Athira was found dead by hanging in her home. It’s reported that Ananthu, a frequent visitor to Athira’s residence, was present on the day of the incident. A verbal argument between them escalated, resulting in Ananthu physically assaulting Athira. RK Vasu, Athira’s grandfather and the sole witness to the incident, had told about this to the police and relatives.

Athira was found dead by her parents, upon returning home from work that night.  While the investigation was ongoing, RK Vasu passed away due to age related ailments.
