Thiruvananthapuram: As Ananthapuri gears up for the highly anticipated Attukal Pongala festival, authorities have put in place essential traffic control measures in the city. Women devotees are eagerly looking forward to participating in the sacred event, Attukal Pongala, scheduled to take place tomorrow. Attukal Pongala happens only once every year in the Malayalam month of ‘Kumbham’.

Thousands of pilgrims from various parts of the state have already thronged to the capital city, creating a vibrant atmosphere around the temple premises. The surge in devotees has been noticeable even two days prior to the event.

Authorities from the municipal council and police department have confirmed that all necessary arrangements for Attukal Pongala have been completed. As part of the preparations, traffic control measures have been implemented across the city. Effective from today afternoon until tomorrow night at 8 pm, traffic restrictions are in place, prohibiting large vehicles and cargo vehicles from entering the city. Additionally, parking along roadsides has been strictly prohibited. To facilitate transportation during the festival, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be operating special bus services.

The ceremonial lighting of the main hearth, ‘Pandara aduppu’, is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 10:30 am, followed by the completion of the Pongala ritual at 2:30 pm after the ‘Ucha Pooja’ and ‘Nivedyam’ ceremonies. The festival will conclude on the 26th at 12:30 pm with the ‘Kuruthitharppanam’ ritual, as announced by officials of the Attukal Temple Trust during a press conference confirming the completion of festival preparations.
