Chennai: DMK’s NRI wing Deputy Organiser of West Chennai district, Jaffer Sadiq, has been removed from his party position after several reports emerged connecting him to an international drug smuggling operation that was recently busted by the Delhi Police and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

It is reported that the DMK leader, is the mastermind behind the narcotic smuggling worth Rs. 2000 crore, which was intercepted by the NCB and Delhi Police.

Jaffer Sadiq has now been removed to safeguard the party’s image, following reports suggesting that he will be arrested in connection with the narcotic smuggling case. DMK General Secretary Durai Murugan issued a press release today stating that Jaffer Sadiq has been expelled from the party’s primary membership. However, there are several reports indicating that DMK previously attempted to safeguard Jaffer Sadiq from the case.

Jaffer Sadiq, who is also a film producer was very close to  Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, son Tamil Nadu CM Stalin.  The audio launch of Jaffer Sadiq’s recent movie titled ‘Mangai’ was released by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, Udhayanidhi Stalin’s wife.

In the joint operation conducted by NCB and Delhi Police, three Tamil Nadu natives have been arrested so far. Officials also report that they have seized 50kg of Pseudoephedrine from them. The drug network extends through India to countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and Malaysia. Pseudoephedrine is used in making methamphetamine.

The drugs are being smuggled presenting it as health mix powder and coconut powder. These are sold for around Rs. 1.5 crore per kg in Australia and New Zealand as per the information NCB received from New Zealand customs and Australian police.

Recognizing the intensity of the situation, a joint task force comprising members from the NCB and Delhi Police was initiated for investigation. The joint force executed a raid on February 15th as the culprits were engaged in packing the Pseudoephedrine amid a shipment of multigrain food mix. This led to the arrest of three people, with 50kg of Pseudoephedrine seized from the accused.

Following interrogations, it was revealed that over the past three years, the syndicate had dispatched around 45 consignments, totaling approximately 3,500 kilograms of Pseudoephedrine, valued at over Rs 2,000 crore on the international market.

The mastermind behind this operation, identified as DMK leader Jaffer Sadiq, has gone into hiding.

The incident has been harshly criticized by Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai, who urged the DMK government to take stringent action against all those involved in drug trafficking.
