Thoothukudi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth Rs 17,300 crore in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi today. Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways felicitated PM Modi with a silver ‘Chenkol’ (Tamil Nadu’s historic symbol of fair governance).
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister pointed out that the projects inaugurated are a symbol of the concept of ‘Ek Bharatam Shrestha Bharat.’ He also said that Tamil Nadu is scripting a new chapter of progress in Thoothukudi as inauguration and foundation stones are being laid for multiple development projects for the country.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Outer Harbour Container Terminal at the VO Chidambaranar Port as part of establishing a transshipment hub on Bharat’s east coast. Modi also inaugurated other projects aimed at transforming the Thoothukudi Port into the country’s first green hydrogen hub port.
Modi also flagged off Bharat’s first indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel. The vessel is manufactured by Cochin Shipyard and underscores a pioneering step for embracing clean energy solutions and aligning with the nation’s net-zero commitments.
He also inaugurated the nation rail projects for the doubling of Vanchi Maniyachchi – Nagercoil rail line, including the Vanchi Maniyachchi – Tirunelveli section and Melappalayam – Aralvaymoli section.
