Thiruvananthapuram: The traffic jam in Enchakkal will be resolved within a year and a half. The private company, which has taken the contract to build the flyover in Enchakkal, has started preliminary work, and construction will begin soon.

The contract for the construction of the flyover, along with bridges and underpasses at four locations on National Highway 66 between Kazhakkoottam and Mukkola, has commenced at a total cost of Rs. 95 crore. The tender was awarded to Cherian Varkey Construction. It costs Rs. 47 crore for the Enchakkal  flyover, Rs. 38 crore for the Anayara underpass, Rs. 38 crore for the Pazhayakada Manakkal flyover, and Rs. 10 crore for the Thiruvallom bridge.

The National Highway authorities have stated that construction will commence in mid-March and assured that the flyover will be completed on time and opened to the public. They also mentioned that there will be traffic restrictions in Enchakkal  during the construction work.

The maintenance period for the contract company is five years. The money will be allocated entirely for construction purposes. Factory-made, ready-made concrete specimens, such as pre-cast subgrade, will be used for construction. The flyover being constructed at Enchakkal  is being built with four lanes and will stretch from the Chackai flyover to the Muttatha underpass. There will be nine spans in every 25 metres.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the commencement of construction in January, signalling the government’s commitment to addressing the region’s traffic woes.
