Ernakulam: The Kerala  High Court will hear the plea today seeking a ban on the release of the upcoming film, ‘Thankamani: The Bleeding Village’, starring Dileep. The hearing comes in response to a petition filed by a resident of Idukki to cancel the censor certificate issued by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for the film ‘Thamkamani’.

The petitioner argues that the title of the film is defamatory and alleges that the storyline includes fabricated incidents that never occurred in the village, Thankamani, Idukki. The petitioner also pointed out that this is against Section 5(b) of the Cinematograph Act.

The court heard the plea in a private hearing the other day and directed the Censor Board to produce the minutes. The demand for a private hearing was raised in court due to the necessity of explaining the film’s story during the hearing.

The story of the film ‘Thankamani: The Bleeding Village’ is based on the incidents that occurred in Idukki in 1986. However, the petitioner previously approached the court, expressing concerns that the film portrays fabricated scenes. The matter was temporarily resolved after assurances from the CBFC that the concerns would be addressed during the screening process.
