Kerala government introduces K-Rice to counter Bharat Rice

Thiruvananthapuram:In a bid to overcome the acceptance of Bharat Rice, the Kerala government has announced the distribution of rice under the K-Rice brand. The announcement was made by Food Minister GR Anil. Ration card holders will get 5 kg of K-Rice per month.

K-Rice brand will distribute Jaya, Kuruva and Matta rice varieties. Jaya rice will be priced at Rs 29, while Kuruva and Matta variants will be priced at Rs 30 per kg. The Minister also informed that Jaya rice will be distributed in Thiruvananthapuram, Matta rice will be made available in the Kottayam and Ernakulam regions, and Kuruva Rice will be made available in the Palakkad and Kozhikode regions.

The distribution of rice will be done through cloth bags with “K Rice” written on them. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the project. Bharat rice is currently available to people for Rs 29.
