Kozhikode: The Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) of Kerala has granted permission to shoot the wild bison responsible for the death of Pallat Abraham of Kakkayam, Kozhikode. The move came after Abraham’s relatives, local residents, and farmer groups organized a protest demanding an order to shoot down the killer bison.
According to the CCF order, maximum efforts should be taken to tranquilize the bison using a dart. The order also stipulates that if the animal cannot be tranquilized or captured and it is confirmed that the same animal was responsible for Abraham’s death, then the animal shall be killed under section 11 (1) (a) of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Pallat Abraham, a native of Kakkayam, Kozhikode, was attacked by a wild bison on Tuesday while returning from his farm. Although seriously injured, Abraham was taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
