CPI warns of electoral setback for LDF as welfare pensions remain suspended in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has voiced concerns over the suspension of welfare pensions in Kerala, stating that it could significantly impact the Left Front’s electoral prospects. The assessment came during a Left Front meeting. The party highlighted that the suspension of welfare pensions, extending beyond six months, could have a significant adverse effect on the electoral outcome. According to CPI’s assessment, the inability of party workers to effectively address the grievances of the common people, coupled with unsuccessful propaganda against the central government on this matter, poses a challenge to the left government in Kerala.

CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam emphasized the urgency of distributing at least two months’ worth of pension before the elections to mitigate the situation. In response, the Chief Minister said that efforts are being taken by the Finance Department to address the issue.

Additionally, there has been widespread public outcry against the government’s handling of ongoing wildlife attacks in the state. Discussions during a CPI(M) meeting revealed a strong backlash from areas near forest borders, with the populace turning against the government. LDF Convener EP Jayarajan had assured the media earlier that the Left Front will address both pension issues and wildlife attacks with utmost seriousness.
