Children in Kerala’s public schools struggle due to lack of resources for SSLC exams

Thiruvananthapuram: Children in public schools are once again facing the impact of the Kerala government’s inefficiency as necessary resources for SSLC examinations remain unavailable. Despite two exams already conducted, schools are still awaiting for stamps and funds to send SSLC answer sheets to evaluation camps.

According to instructions, answer sheets must be bundled and sent to evaluation camps by post within an hour of the examination’s conclusion. However, schools are currently unable to ascertain the required amount for this task.

The exam secretary cites technical glitches as the reason behind the delayed payment, assuring that funds will be made available within two days. Meanwhile, headmasters are burdened with additional postal fees, compounded by the fact that funds for IT practical exams from previous years have not been received. Furthermore, no funds have been allocated for conducting SSLC examinations after 2021. It has been suggested to take this amount from the PD (professional development) fund of the schools.

In previous years, schools received stamps required for sending answer sheets before exams. Teachers noted that last year, they also received sufficient funds for postage. However, this year marks the first instance where both stamps and funds are unavailable. Schools with 100 students are incurring an average daily cost of Rs 250 for sending answer sheets to evaluation camps in other districts.
