Cyclone Mocha; strong winds and bad weather likely to hit Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari and Sri Lanka coasts

Thiruvananthapuram: As the tropical cyclone Mocha intensifies strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely to occur over the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari region and the Sri Lankan coasts. Fishermen are prohibited from going into the sea.

Fishing has also been prohibited in the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea until further notice. North-Eastern states are notified to be vigilant of the cyclone.

India Meteorological Department has banned Lakshadweep for fishing, because of wind speeds as high as 40-50km per hour is being spawned in the Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, there are no prohibitions for fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka coasts.

Media reports said that the cyclone Mocha had hit the coasts of Myanmar yesterday, which has now trapped over 1000 people. 700 people who were seeking refuge at Sittwe, Myanmar were injured.
