Darjeeling, Jul 6 (UNI): Northeast Frontier Railway has launched a website (https://nfr.indianrailways.gov.in/) for movie producers and directors across the country inviting them hassle-free approval in case they want to shoot using the Toy Train ( Darjeeling Himalayam Railway) and its infrastructure in the hills of Darjeeling.
“Any film producer or enthusiast willing to undertake film shooting either using Toy Train or railway premises in Darjeeling Himalayan Railway can now apply online without physically coming to the shooting site or concerning offices,” an NFR statement said on Tuesday.
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a world heritage site, has been a huge attraction both to visiting travellers around the world as well as in Bollywood, Tollywood and the movie makers from the southern states of the country.
The shooting of more than 25 Bollywood films was done in the Darjeeling areas. Some of the famous movies among others were Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), China Town (1962), Aradhana (1969), Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992), Parineeta(2005), Barfi (2012) and Jagga Jasoos (2017).
Besides many short films and TV serials were shot in the DHR over the years.
Recently, in January 2021 a documentary film on Mother Teresa was also shot on-board a Toy-train from Siliguri Jn. to Kurseong.
“Any film producer or enthusiast willing to undertake film shooting either using Toy Train or railway premises in Darjeeling Himalayan Railway can upload scanned copy of the necessary documents by visiting the dashboard. Their applications will be processed online as per existing guidelines.
Production houses can also deposit the requisite fees required to be submitted before undertaking the shooting online. The entire process can also be monitored by the applicant, it brings about transparency and ease of doing business with railways,” the NFR, which runs the DHR, said.
