In a recent update concerning Walt Disney Co’s film productions, it has been revealed that numerous highly anticipated films will face significant postponements, causing delays in both the Avatar and Marvel franchises. Disney has not disclosed specific reasons for these schedule changes, leaving fans curious about the underlying factors.
The revised release dates have pushed the release dates by a year, resulting in the completion of the next three instalments of the Avatar series by the year 2031. This means that the fifth instalment of the beloved movie will hit screens almost 22 years after the release of the groundbreaking first film in 2009. Avatar producer Jon Landau took to twitter to explain that the additional time was necessary for the filmmakers to fully realise the vision of the third, fourth, and fifth instalments set in the captivating world of Pandora.
Among the affected releases, various Marvel movies, including ‘Blade’ and ‘Thunderbolts,’ have also been subject to postponements. These delays are compounded by an ongoing writers’ strike, further hampering the progress of these productions. ‘Blade,’ featuring the talented Mahershala Ali, has been pushed back by five months and is now slated for a February 2025 release. Similarly, ‘Thunderbolts,’ originally scheduled for July 2024, has been rescheduled for December of the same year, while the highly anticipated “Fantastic Four” adaptation will now grace screens on May 2, 2025. Furthermore, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is facing a full-year delay, moving from May 2, 2025, to May 1, 2026. It will take the place of “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is leaping from May 1, 2026, to May 7, 2027.
Despite the disappointment caused by the delays, there is also good news for Disney film enthusiasts. The rescheduled release slots have allowed certain films to be moved up, generating excitement among fans. This includes a highly anticipated live-action adaptation of “Moana,” set to hit theatres on June 27, 2025. Additionally, “Deadpool 3” has been bumped up from its original date of November 8, 2024, to May 3, 2024, igniting anticipation among fans of the beloved character. Moreover, an untitled “Star Wars” film has been announced for December 18, 2026, adding to the thrill as one of two Star Wars movies set to debut that year.
