After a hiatus of nearly 12 years, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore made a comeback to the screen with the film ‘Gulmohar,’ which received a warm reception from the audience upon its release on Disney+ Hotstar. She was recently seen attending an event for Help Age India in Delhi.
During media interactions at the event, Sharmila Tagore shared her thoughts on the current content being shown on television, expressing her disapproval of it. As a member of the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), she highlighted that many TV serials depict women as each other’s adversaries, which she finds unfortunate. She mentioned that the government keeps a check on such content, and if objectionable portions are identified, the matter is brought to their attention. At times, they reach out to the show makers, requesting modifications or the removal of problematic content. However, producers often prioritise commercial considerations over addressing logical concerns, leading to resistance to making necessary changes.
Sharmila further emphasised that her absence from acting doesn’t imply retirement. While she may not have been actively involved in acting, she has been actively speaking about cinema on various platforms. According to her, one doesn’t have to be at the peak of their career to make a difference. At every stage, using one’s voice and making one’s presence felt can bring about meaningful change.
