Thiruvananthapuram: The highly anticipated Kerala State Film Awards announcement, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed following the sad demise of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The new schedule has been announced, and the awards will now be declared at 3 p.m. on Friday at the PR Chamber Secretariat.
A total of 154 movies were submitted for screening for the prestigious awards this year, showcasing the diverse talent in the Kerala film industry. Out of these submissions, 42 movies were shortlisted for the second round of consideration. Comparatively, 142 movies were submitted for screening last year, indicating a significant increase in participation.
The esteemed Jury for the Kerala State Film Awards is headed by renowned film director and screenwriter Goutham Ghose, known for his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema. With their expertise and discerning eye, the jury members face the challenging task of selecting the most deserving winners from a pool of exceptional films and talented artists.
Among the movies in contention for the awards, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ has garnered attention, having won several accolades at international film festivals. Additionally, the Kunchacko Boban-starrer ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu, directed by Ratheesh Poduval, Tharun Moorthy’s ‘Saudi Vellakka’, ‘Appan, directed by Maju, and ‘Puzhu, by Ratheena P. T, are among the notable films expected to make an impact at the awards.
The race for the best actor honour is particularly exciting, with veterans Mammootty and Kunchacko Boban emerging as strong contenders. Mammootty’s remarkable performances in three successful films, including ‘Rorschach’, ‘Puzhu’, and ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’, have captivated audiences and critics alike. Kunchacko Boban’s portrayal of the petty thief Kozhummal Rajeevan in ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’ has also received praise and is generating buzz for his potential win.
