Filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who is currently on his post-Cannes tour in Italy, came out with an announcement on his next film being made on the story of Jesus. This announcement came after the director’s brief private meeting with Pope Francis in Vatican City.
As per media reports, the director said that, “I have responded to the Pope’s appeal to artistes in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus, And I’m about to start making it.”
The director also said that the Holy Father’s appeal on ‘let us see Jesus’ deeply moved him.
Scorsese has previously made a religious drama film called “The Last Temptation of Christ” in 1988, which was based on a novel of the same name. The film at the time was met with various protests, bans, and even attacks by numerous Christian groups because of the premise it presented.
The legendary filmmaker is still busy at the age of 80. Recently, during the Cannes premiere of his long-awaited film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ he received a standing ovation. The film has an amazing and talented cast, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio and veteran actor Robert De Niro.
