Puri-Surat Express train gets derailed after hitting elephant

Sambalpur (Odisha): Elephant dies after getting hit by the Puri-Surat express train. According to reports, as many as six wheels of the train engine derailed following the accident. No passenger casualties have been reported yet. All the passengers and the railway staffs including the loco pilots are safe.

The train departed from Sambalpur at around 1.55 AM and the accident took place around 2 AM. When the elephant crossed the track, train was moving at a speed of 50 km/h, said the officials.

Following the accident, all wheels of the engine front trolley derailed on the spot. The railway communication has also been disrupted. The train will resume its service very soon after the derailment of the affected engine.
