Renowned poet Sugathakumari Teacher no more

Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned Malayalam poet, activist Sugathakumari Teacher bid farewell on Wednesday. The 86 year old poet was admitted to Trivandrum Medical College after she was tested positive for Covid 19.

Born in Aranmula on 3 January 1934, she is the daughter of famous writer Keshava Pillai (Bodheswaran) and teacher V K Karthiyayini.

One of the most respected and noted poets of Malayalam, Sugathakumari teacher is the recipient of several awards and honors including Padma Shree, Kerala Sahitya Academy Award, Odakkuzhal Award, Vayalar Award, Kendra Sahitya Academy Award, Vallathol Award, Saraswathi Samman, Thoppil Bhasi Award, Ezhuthachan Award, Mathrubhumi Literary Award and ONV Award.

According to reports, her cremation will be conducted at Shantikavaadam Cremation centre with all state honors.
