Uttarakhand Disaster: 53 bodies recovered so far, rescue operation continues

A total of 53 bodies were recovered so far in the Uttarakhand Glacier burst. The ITBP, NDRF and Indian Army have rescued around 30 people trapped in the first tunnel and are continuing the efforts to rescue workers trapped in the second tunnel.

Tonnes of debris stuck inside the tunnel in Chamoli district is being cleared, continuous slush coming out of the tunnel is delaying the rescue operation.

“The Alakananda River at Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal is flowing at the normal level and no alert as been issued by the district administration in this regard,” said Uttarakhand Police.

A glacier burst in the Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district which has led to massive flooding in Dhauli Ganga and Alakananda rivers damaged the Rishiganga Hydel Power Project and over 170 people are still missing.
