Around 20 per cent turnout recorded till 10 AM in Bengal Assembly poll

Amid elaborate security arrangements, around 20 per cent electorate exercised their franchise till 10 AM on Thursday in the sixth phase West Bengal Assembly election to 43 seats to decide the fate of 306 candidates.

Long queues were seen outside polling stations, where voting will continue till 6.30 PM. As the polling for the fifth phase Assembly polls began this morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters to come out and vote in large numbers.

Taking to his tweeter handle, PM Modi said, “The people of West Bengal are voting to elect a new assembly. On the sixth phase today, urging those whose seats are polling to exercise their franchise.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to all the voters of the sixth phase of Bengal, especially the youth, to vote fearlessly for the bright future of Bengal in “maximum numbers”.

“Your one vote is the cornerstone of giving rights to the poor and deprived of Bengal and making the state a leader in development,” he tweeted in Hindi.

In a relatively peaceful polling in the sixth phase when people of 43 constituencies across four districts of West Bengal are exercising their franchise.
