Central government initiated proceedings to  link Aadhar and Voter ID cards

New Delhi: The Central Government starts measures to link  Aadhar and Voter ID Cards. The Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said the linking will help curb the menace of multiple enrolments of the same person in different places and also makes the voters list flawless.

“Empowering every voter! Hon’ble PM Sh @narendramodi ji’s govt.’s historic step to reform the electoral process. In consultation with the Election Commission of India, Govt. has issued four notifications under The Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021. #8YearsOfSeva”, Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

With this new step, the Central Government is initiating a crucial overhaul of the electoral process in the country.

At present, January 1 is the only date to register for the new voters. But the new system will help those who are turning 18 on January 1, April 1 or July 1 or October 1 can immediately apply for their enrolment without waiting for one whole year.

The Electoral law amendment was passed by both the houses of parliament during the last session.

On recommendation of the Legal Affairs Standing Committee of Parliament, steps have been taken to prepare a single voter’s list in the country as part of the amendment.

Currently the Central Election Commission is preparing voters list for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and State Election Commission is preparing voters list for the local body elections. Instead of this, the standing committee recommended to prepare a unified voters list and elections must be held on that basis.
