Mumbai: Union Minister and former Army Chief VK Singh opposed the ongoing protests and violence against Agnipath scheme. He said there is no strict rule to enrol in the scheme and one need not want to join the scheme if they don’t have interest in it.
The Union Minister marked his strong statements while the protesters spread violent attacks across different regions in the country.
The minister said that nobody will force anyone to join the Indian army and the decision of enrolment will be completely personal. One can either come if they like the scheme and may not come if they don’t like. V.K. Singh reminded that one gets selection only if that person meets the eligibility criteria.
The Agnipath scheme was announced by Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India, on June 14th this year, to upgrade the standards of Indian Military Forces. Youngsters who come under the age group of 17.5 to 23 years are eligible to apply under the scheme. As per reports, around 46,000 youngsters will be recruited annually to the Army, Navy and Air force team.
Many states including Bihar, UP, Odisha, Telangana have faced protests against the project.
