Guwahati: Flood in Assam turns irrevocably terrible after marking 11 deaths in 24 hours. Assam State Disaster Management Authority has reported deaths occured due to heavy rains and landslides, prevailing since 17th this month.
The flood continues disastrously and about 42 lakhs people from more than 30 districts are being affected. The death toll reaches 82 and a police officer drowned to death while taking part in rescue operations in Nagaon village.
Out of 42 lakhs people who are affected with the flood, half of the people are from the western districts of Barpeta, Baksa, Goalpara and Kamrup.
The Government said, around 21 percent of Barpeta region is currently affected by the flood. The Central Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains today. The heavy rain affected the Kaziranga National Park and killed 7 deers and a leopard.
Home Minister Amit Shah has assessed the situation in the state last day. He has announced strong support and readiness to help people in Assam and Meghalaya. Amit Shah said the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) would visit flooded areas to assess damage.
