Mumbai: The newly sworn in Maharashtra Government will face floor test at 11am today. BJP’s Rahul Narwekar has been elected as the new speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly on 3 July. Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis were sworn in as the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister on 30 June.

The Government is seeking the vote of confidence today, after a series of political dramas ,after the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray led MVA government. Ahead of the floor test, Eknath Shinde, MLAs as well as Devendra Fadnavis and BJP MLAs held a meeting last night . Eknath Shinde expects the same victory as in that of the speaker election. He has the support of 40 Siv Sena leaders and around 10 independent leaders.

Meanwhile, Devendra Fadnavis informed that Shinde will win with 166 votes. Rahul Narwekar was elected last day as the speaker with 164 votes. Two MLSs were absent due to health issues.

Uddhav Thackeray alleged that MLAs had violated the whip issued by Siv Sena’s Sunil Prabhu and so, 39 must be disqualified.

In the 288 member Maharashtra Assembly, BJP has 106 MLAs. Eknath Shinde has the support of 39 Siv Sena leaders and around 10 independent leaders.
