Srinagar: Ten pilgrims died in a cloudburst and flash flood near Amarnath temple. Report says the incident took place at 5.30 pm and lasted for about 15 minutes. Many are missing.
Amarnath yathra has been halted temporarily. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over casualties and assured all possible assistance for the affected.
Rescue operations ate underway. CPRF official informed that pilgrims were given timely warning and the situation is under control. The injured have been air lifted for treatment.
Rescue team including police, security forces and NDRF have rushed to the spot and conducted massive operation.
Community kitchen and tents have been destroyed in cloudburst and flash flood. As per the reports, water came from above sides of the cave after the heavy rain in the upper reaches.
