Mangaluru:  Karnataka police have arrested two more persons in BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru’s murder case and are in the hunt of arresting the assailants.
The accused have been identified as Saddam and Harris. They will be produced before the court anytime soon.
The arrested persons have been booked under Sections 16, 18 of UA(P) Act 1967 and sections 302, 120B r/w 34 IPC, police said in a statement. It also said that the conspirators and assailants have been identified and the police have launched a manhunt to track them down.
With their arrests, the total number of arrests in the case has been increased to four. The police earlier had arrested two persons namely Shafique and Mohammad Zakir.
The fresh arrests have been made a day after Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai telling reporters that an informal investigation was launched by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the case.
He also assured arrests of Praveen’s assailants and soon the case would be formally handed over to NIA after completion of legal process.
As many as three murders have taken place in Dakshina Kannada district, beginning with murder of Masood near Bellare on July 19. On July 26 night, Praveen was hacked to death in Bellare.
On July 28 night, the police registered third murder case after Mohammad Fazil was killed by masked men at Surathkal in the outskirts of Mangaluru.
