Lucknow: In a bid to realise the strong potential of tourism in Uttar Pradesh, an Eco-Tourism Development Board will be constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister for the development and management of the basic facilities of tourism in the permissible areas outside the wild sanctuaries of the state.
A proposal in this regard was approved by the state cabinet in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. The composition of the Board will consist of an Eco-Tourism Development Board and an Eco-Tourism Executive Committee with its headquarters at Lucknow. The CM will be the ex-officio chairman of this board.
There will be two types of members in the board, including official (ex-officio) members and special invitee members. Ministers of Agriculture, Forest, Ayush, Finance, Tourism, Irrigation, Rural Development, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Forest Corporation, Chief Secretary, Principal Chief Conservator and Heads of Departments will be the members of the board and Chief Secretary or Principal Secretary will be the member secretary.
As per the proposal to develop eco-tourism sector through the board, various activities like trekking, hiking, cycling, caravan tourism, sea-plane, river cruise, adventure tourism, development of hotel, resort and infrastructure facilities, ballooning, camping and wellness tourism based on Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy will be executed.
It may be noted that UP has about 16,582 square kilometers of forest area with many beautiful landscapes, forest-spreads, flowing rivers and breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls, birds and animals. The state has one national park, 26 wildlife sanctuaries, including 12 bird sanctuaries and 9 eco-tourism circuits.
