New Delhi: INS Vikrant is a tribute to the soldiers who participated in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and the freedom fighters, says Indian navy.

The Sanskrit word ‘Vikrant’ means ‘being powerful’. It is the first indigenous aircraft that has been made in India. The ship will be commissioned in 2nd September in the presence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

INS Vikrant is a 45,000 tonne warship. Indian Navy also confirmed that the reincarnation of INS Vikrant will add more strength to the Indian Navy force. It has a space equal to two football fields. Apart from the indigenously made Advanced Light Helicopters(ALH) Light Combat Aircrafts(LCA), it has a capacity to carry about 30 aircraft including MIG 29 K fighter jets, Kamov-31 and MH-60 R Multirole helicopters.

The complete control, including the safety of the jets, will be given to the Navy force.

Vikrant can travel with a speed of 28 nautical miles. It has above 2300 compartments and can carry above 1700 people. It has special cabin for women. The ship has multi specialty medical complexes with isolation wards and tele medicine services. It has been using the most modern technologies to identify threats and act immediately.
