Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kerala today to launch a number of developmental programmes. The prime focus of the visit will be to dedicate the country’s first ever indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. Prime Minister will commission the aircraft carrier at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi at 9.30 am tomorrow.
INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier is designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built in Cochin Shipyards.
“In what will mark a significant step towards self-reliance in the defence sector, the Prime Minister will commission the first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier as INS Vikrant. Designed by Indian Navy’s in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a Public Sector Shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Vikrant has been built with state-of-the-art automation features and is the largest ship ever built in the maritime history of India”, PMO informed in it’s statement.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the proposed phase 2 corridor of Kochi Metro Rail Project from JLN stadium metro station to Infopark, Kakkanad, and railway development projects at 6 pm at Nedumbasseri CIAL Convention Centre.
The revenue operations of stations will start at 7 pm, soon after the PM dedicates the stations to Kochi.
Narendra Modi’s schedule includes the inauguration of Kuruppunthara-Chingavanam electric line, Kollam-Punalur single line electrification, laying foundation stone of the modification project of Ernakulam South, Ernakulam North, Kollam railway stations and inauguration of Pettah-SN Junction.
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ministers Antony Raju, P Rajeev, Kochi Mayor M Anilkumar, Hibi Eden MP will be present in the function.
BJP District Committee too has arranged warm welcome to the PM. Narendra Modi will address the BJP meeting organised near the airport. The PM will also visit the Adi Sankara Janmabhumi temple and Adi Sankara Keerthi Sthambham.
The Prime Minister will also participate in the BJP core committee meeting, arranged at Taj Hotel, where the PM is scheduled to stay.
