New Delhi: The central government has speeded up the move to ban Popular Front organization in the country. The Union Home Ministry is planning to ban the outfit under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). If the Popular Front is also banned, the number of such organizations in the country will be 43.
It is indicated that the steps to ban the organization are being taken forward under Section 35 of the UAPA Act. On 22nd of this month, the NIA received crucial information during the inspection conducted at Popular Front centers in 15 states. Based on this, it is reported that the move to ban the Popular Front as a terrorist organization has been speeded up. So far 106 activists have been arrested from different parts of the country. Many documents were seized. All these were subjected to detailed scrutiny by the NIA.
Apart from this, the statements given by the arrested persons have also been examined in detail. It is clear from the evidence and statements that the Popular Front has links with Islamic terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Islamic State.
