Customs submits charge sheet against M Sivasankar on dollar smuggling case

Kochi: The Customs has submitted charge sheet before the court on the dollar smuggling case in which M Sivasankar is named as the the sixth accused. The charge sheet explains that the cash kept in the locker was of Sivasankar. M Sivasankar, the former Principal Secretary of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was well aware of the smuggling activities and he himself had leaked the crucial Intelligence information to Swapna Suresh as well as to Sarith, says the report.

M Sivasankar had passed the secret details of smuggling to Swapna and also told about details in which Consul General of UAE was involved. Sivasankar was aware of all activities including commission details of Life Mission project. NIA had seized Rupees one crore from Swapna’s locker and that was the commission given to Sivasankar.

The Customs official also cited the details of the phone chats between Swapna Suresh and M Sivasankar.

Among the six, UAE Consulate’s former officer Khalid Mohammed Ali Shoukkath is the first accused and Sarith, former employee of the UAE Consulate, Swapna, Sandeep, Santhosh Eppen and M Sivasankar are the other accused respectively. The Customs submitted 40-page charge sheet before the court.

M Sivasankar was suspended from the service and after 17 months, returned to service as the Principal Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs.
