Kannur: The funeral rites of CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will be held today. The cremation will take place in the evening at Payyambalam. Senior leaders of the party will pay their tribute in Kannur.
The body will be taken to Kannur at 9 o’clock for public viewing at the Kodiyeri residence and the CPM Kannur district committee office till 2 pm. Leaders including CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Prakash Karat will pay their last respects. The funeral rites will be held at Payyambalam at three o’clock. The hartal will be held in Thalassery, Dharmadam and Kannur constituencies as a mark of respect to Kodiyeri today.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan passed away at 8 pm on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai. He was suffering from cancer. His body was brought to Kannur in an air ambulance from Chennai yesterday afternoon.
