Thiruvananthapuram: The state government’s decision to grant an award for the novel ‘Meesha’ that slams the Hindu women has received huge protests from several Hindu organisations. The novel ‘Meesha’, which provoked many Hindu organisations, written by S Hareesh, has been selected for the 46th Vayalar Rama Varma Awards

The decision of giving the award has been taken by a committee chaired by Perumpadavam Sreedharan. The jury members opined that the novel has adopted a different writing style and structure and the controversies were insignificant. Earlier, the state government had given Kerala Sahithya Academy Award for the same novel.

The novel published in ‘Mathrubhumi’ led to many controversies on comments regarding the women visiting the temple. The Hindu organisations had come up with a huge protest against this work that mocked the Hindu priests and the Hindu women. Because of that, the publication was stopped and the Mathrubhumi management had apologised to the Nair Service Society (NSS) publicly for publishing the novel.

The protests continued when the novel was published. And it is now selected for the Vayalar Award too. The Hindu organisations have commented that this is the usual approach of the state government against the Hindu culture.
