Thiruvananthapuram: Governor has directly asked the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University to resign. Instead, the governor asked that the responsibility of the university should be given to the VC of Health University. But Kerala VC said that he is not ready to resign. The VC replied that he has the right to expel.
The VCs of nine universities in the state have been asked to resign. The governor has asked the VCs of Kerala, MG, Calicut, Kannur, Kaladi, Malayalam, Fisheries, Technology and Cusat to resign by 11.30 tomorrow. The Governor’s move was based on the Supreme Court’s verdict quashing the appointment of the Technical University VC. Pointing out that the appointment of M S Rajashree as the VC of Thiruvananthapuram University of Technology was not based on the UGC rules and thus the Governor demanded the resignation of other VCs as well.
Higher Education Minister R Bindu responded that it was a unilateral action by the Governor. The Minister said that the Governor’s decision is taking place at a time when the higher education sector is growing under the leadership of VCs.
