Dhaka: Seven people, including three members of a family, lost their lives in Cyclone Sitrang in Bangladesh. Heavy rain and strong cyclonic storm hit in Dhaka, Bagalkot in Comilla Daulatan, Charfason in Bhola and Lohagara. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from the Cox’s Bazar coast in Bangladesh following Cyclone Sitrang. Domestic animals including cattle have also been shifted to safe shelters.
28,155 people and 2736 domestic animals have been shifted to safe shelters along Cox’s Bazar. Around 576 relief camps have been set up here in case the cyclone gets stronger. Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mamunur Rasheed said that relief camps have been arranged including in schools in the area.
Around 104 medical teams are ready to deal with the emergency situation. 323 tones of food grains including rice have also been collected. Cyclone Sitrang moved towards the north-eastern region on Yesterday evening, the Meteorological Department said. The warning is that there is a possibility for heavy rain and wind for the next two days. States like West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland have also been alerted.
