Kottayam: African swine flu confirmed at Meenachil panchayath. Dr PK Jayasree, the district collector has informed that the district disaster management team has taken precautionary measures. The 1 km area near the infected pig farm has been declared as the infected area.
Apart from this, the surrounding area of 10 kms has been declared as the disease surveillance region. Strict orders have also been given to close the shops that sell pig meat here. A rapid action force has also been formed to analyse the working.
Swine flu has been confirmed in Kottayam after reporting the case of bird flu in Alappuzha. Culling of ducks has been started and about two thousand ducks were culled in Haripad region.
In order to stop spreading disease from birds to humans, the district collector has said that strict actions will be taken against people who violate the rules. For this, special squads have been made under the supervision of Tehsildars.
