New Delhi: UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for congratulating him on assuming charge as Britain’s PM. He also said that he is excited about the achievement of two great democracies in the months and years ahead.

“Thank you Prime Minister @NarendraModi for your kind words as I get started in my new role. The UK and India share so much. I’m excited about what our two great democracies can achieve as we deepen our security, defence and economic partnership in the months & years ahead”, tweeted Rishi Sunak.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that they will work together to strengthen strategic partnership.

“Glad to speak to @RishiSunak today. Congratulated him on assuming charge as UK PM. We will work together to further strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. We also agreed on the importance of early conclusion of a comprehensive and balanced FTA”, tweeted PM Narendra Modi.

India started discussion based on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with Britain last January. But it was postponed due to various reasons. It is in this context that Modi mentioned this while congratulating Rishi Sunak.

Rishi Sunak was declared as the PM of Britain last Tuesday. He is the fifth Conservative Party leader elected to the top post in the past six years. He is also the first Indian origin British Prime Minister.
