Thiruvananthapuram: The Government will freeze the decision of raising the age of retirement to 60in public sector institutions. The decision regarding this was taken by the cabinet meeting that was held today. The CM himself pointed out that a massive protest is going on after the announcement of the decision. Even the ruling party had shown their relectance in the decision. It is said that the finance minister and the chief secretary have been given in charge on the matter.

The new order was taken on the last Saturday. As per the notice it will be applicable for all 122 public undertaking institutions, except KSEB, KSRTC and Water Authority. In the statement, DYFI clarified that this will have a negative influence on all job seekers in the nation. But the Government had tried their best to implement the new policy. Even the students’ federation of the ruling party had come up with opposition.

The DYFI state secretary Sanoj said that the unemployment rate of the state is higher than that of the national average. There is no objection in unifying the service and salary relaxations, he added.

In a discussion held with the youth association, in 2018, the CM Pinarayi Vijayan  had given assurance that they will never raise the age of retirement.
