New Delhi: Air pollution in Delhi-Haryana-Chandigarh region has reached extreme levels. Fog and smoke are spreading over Delhi and its surrounding areas, hiding even the sunlight during the day. With the worsening of air pollution, the quality of fresh air moves forward beyond the danger line. According to the Meteorological Department, the Air Quality Index has reached a very deplorable level of 364.
The Delhi region, known for its air pollution in general, is one of the cities to bear the effect of the straw burning in nearby rural farms. It is also noteworthy that, contrary to the norm, pollution due to Diwali was not reported. The level of pollution is assessed according to the AQI index of the Union Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
Atmospheric dust levels between 300 and 400 are indicative of horrible conditions. If it goes above 400 it will be considered extremely dangerous. Air pollution levels have been high for two weeks in important areas including the President’s House, Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Office in the national capital.
